Nittedal municipality is an attractive suburban context: close to Oslo, rich with nature, and having an affordable real estate. Urbanization processes have started putting a pressure on the area. The project illustrates the new condition: the site measuring 3600 m2 is located on a steep terrain with a difficult access while the client wants to develop a housing estate containing ten residential units.

The project's constraint revolves around optimizing landscape intervention and the need for retaining walls, as this would adversely affect the investment's economic rationale. The surplus of excavated mass is to be used for the construction of the new access road.

Two parallel housing rows are placed in the sloping landscape. This is done through a careful study of topography in order to find the most optimal position. The horizontal space between the two volumes functions as a communal zone for the future inhabitants. It is approached as an urbanized zone while the rest of the site is left as an untouched terrain. An existing hiking path crosses the site while trespassing the communal zone.
